Going to a LAN, whether it’s your first time or tenth, can be a worrying prospect, but don’t fret but have you covered! Check out the handy tips below for how to pack for LAN, how to keep your stuff safe whilst at LAN and also a list of what to bring!

  • Ensuring your PC arrives safely at your next LAN event is one of the most important things to ensure you have a good time at LAN. It's importance to take care in packing and make sure you complete your pre-travel checks!

    1. Tighten All Screws
Before you set off, check that all screws are securely fastened. Loose screws can cause components to shift around, leading to potential damage like cracks, chips, or event screws in your graphics card or fans! Consider using Gissroys Security Computer Case Lock Screws, to add an extra layer of security to your PC's internals.

    2. Secure Internal Components
To prevent damage to key parts like your CPU cooler and GPU, pack the inside of your case with anti-static bubble wrap or foam. If you don’t have those, plenty of packing paper will work as well.

    3. Use the Original Packaging
If you’ve kept the original box your PC came in, now’s the time to use it. It’s designed to fit your PC perfectly, which reduces the risk of movement. If that box is no longer available, find one as close to the size of your case as possible, and fill any gaps with bubble wrap or foam. Towels can be a decent alternative if you’re in a bind.

    4. Reinforce the Box
Once packed, securely tape up the box, ensuring all seams are reinforced to handle the weight of your PC.

    5. Lay the Box Flat
Place the box flat in the car, with the motherboard side down. This ensures your components are positioned securely and reduces the chance of damage during travel.

By following these steps, you’ll give your PC the best chance of arriving safely, ready for action at your next LAN event!

  • To keep your equipment secure at Enclave we will be handing out security stickers on check-in, these stickers need to be placed on your PC/Console and monitors as well as on your lanyard. This way, when leaving the venue, security will verify that any hardware being taken matches your credentials, providing an extra layer of protection for your belongings.

However, it’s always smart to take additional precautions with your valuables, such as:

    • Unplug all your devices and store them in your bag when stepping away for any period of time.

    • The same goes for your wallet, phone, and any other important items. If you don’t want to carry everything with you, consider getting a secure bag that can be locked and tethered for added peace of mind.

    • Lock your equipment using something like the CaLeQi Combination Security Lock Cable for Laptop or a Kensington Lock to secure your equipment to the desk whilst at LAN.

Looking out for each other is key, too. If you notice anything out of place, such as unattended items or someone behaving suspiciously, be sure to report it to event staff. It helps keep the event safe for everyone!
